Franklin County's Alyssa Sherrill swings at a pitch in this file photo from earlier in the season. Sherrill had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Rebelettes Tuesday in their 10-4 loss at Lawrence County High School.
The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Lawrence County Lady Wildcats 10-4 on the road Tuesday in an elimination game for the District 8AAA tournament.
The Lady Wildcats scored the first nine runs of the contest with a surge of offense from the Rebelettes in the second half of the game not being enough to mount a comeback.
The Lady Wildcats pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the first to take an early lead, and they scored six more runs in the bottom of the second to make it an 8-0 game early. All of Lawrence County’s runs in the second inning came with two outs in the frame.
A two-out RBI double in the bottom of the third gave the Lady Wildcats another run as the early deficit was pushed up to 9-0.
The Rebelettes got their first run of the day in the top of the fourth with Kaitlyn Montgomery hitting an RBI double to score Raelyn Wainwright from second base and make it a 9-1 game.
Emma Owens got hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the fifth and was later driven home on a two-run home run from Alyssa Sherrill to cut the lead down to 9-3.
However, Lawrence County’s cleanup hitter got one of those runs back with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the score at 10-3 going into the final inning.
With two outs and nobody on in the top of the seventh, Paislie Edge walked and Kyleigh DeCamp singled before Sherrill contributed an RBI single to bring Edge across home plate. However, the Rebelettes weren’t able to score again in the inning as they lost by six.
Dalayna Marshall pitched the first 1 2-3 innings for the Rebelettes with one strikeout, six hits, four walks, two earned runs and six unearned runs allowed.
Kaylee Morris pitched the remaining 4 1-3 innings with two strikeouts, five hits, three walks and two runs allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes finished their season with a record of 7-22.
