Some teams see an immediate impact from an NFL draft class. Others have to wait on a return.

The Houston Texans went from worst to first in the AFC South Division last season after selecting quarterback C.J. Stroud and edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. back to back with the second and third overall picks at the 2023 draft in Kansas City, Missouri. The Carolina Panthers ended up with the NFL's worst record despite taking quarterback Bryce Young at No. 1 overall, so they have to be patient.

The NFL draft wrapped up Saturday evening in Detroit after three days, seven rounds and 257 picks -- some of which will not be winners in the long run.

The Chicago Bears are the leading contender to have a Texans-type turnaround after getting quarterback Caleb Williams with the first pick and wide receiver Rome Odunze at No. 9. The Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Commanders also had excellent drafts.

It usually takes three years to fairly grade a draft, but here are AP's early reports on each team's overall draft.

ARIZONA CARDINALS: A

They the best receiver in the draft by taking Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 4 overall, and they upgraded the defensive front with edge rusher Darius Robinson at 27. Running back Trey Benson and cornerbacks Elijah Jones and Max Melton highlighted the team's five picks on Friday, while defensive back Dadrion Taylor-Demerson and offensive tackle Christian Jones are potential starters from the last day of the draft.

ATLANTA FALCONS: C-

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 was the most stunning pick of the draft because veteran Kirk Cousins had just received $100 million guaranteed from Atlanta as a free-agent signee at the same position. On defense, lineman Ruke Orhorhor (35) and end Bralen Trice (74) should bolster the unit. They reached on some of their third-day picks after starting strong with defensive lineman Brandon Dorius in the fourth round.

BALTIMORE RAVENS: B+

Cornerback Nate Wiggins (30) and defensive end Adisa Isaac (93) can make an immediate impact, offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten (62) had some first-round grades, and cornerback T.J. Tampa and running back Rasheen Ali could become third-day steals.

BUFFALO BILLS: B

They traded out of the first round and watched three more receivers go before ending up with wideout Keon Coleman (33). They got better value with safety Cole Bishop (60) and defensive lineman DeWayne Carter (95) later on the second night. Offensive lineman Sedrick Van Pran-Granger and linebackers Edefuan Ulofoshio and Javon Solomon are outstanding picks in the fifth round.

CAROLINA PANTHERS: B

They added playmakers to help Young, last year's top pick, with three of their first four selections this year: receiver Xavier Legette (32), running back Jonathon Brooks (46) and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders.

CHICAGO BEARS: A+

Getting both Williams and Odunze in the top 10 will help them compete for a playoff spot this season, while offensive lineman Kiran Amegadjie (75) provides more protection for their rookie quarterback. They did take Tory Taylor, the best punter in the draft, a little early in the fourth round.

CINCINNATI BENGALS: B

Offensive tackle Amarius Mims (18) has major upside but isn't as much of a slam dunk as other linemen who went in the first round. The team had a strong second day, getting defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, receiver Jermaine Burton and defensive lineman McKinnley Jackson. Also, tight end Tanner McLachlan as a sixth-rounder has plenty of potential.

CLEVELAND BROWNS: B+

Getting defensive lineman Michael Hall Jr. (54) made it worth the wait for the last team to draft. Receiver Jamari Thrash is a sleeper in the fifth, while linebacker Nathaniel Watson could be a steal in the sixth.

DALLAS COWBOYS: B

They traded down and still filled a major hole with offensive tackle Tyler Guyton (29) on the first night, then addressed more needs on Friday with defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland (56) and offensive lineman Cooper Beebe (73). They added depth and value on Saturday with cornerback Caelen Carson and receiver Ryan Flournoy.

DENVER BRONCOS: B+

Taking quarterback Bo Nix in the 20s instead of at No. 12 would have been ideal, but they didn't want to risk missing out on him. And they made excellent picks the rest of the way with defensive end Jonah Elliss (76), receiver Troy Franklin, cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine and running back Audric Estime. Franklin is a first-round talent who slipped to the fourth.

DETROIT LIONS: B

They traded up to get cornerback Terrion Arnold (24) and strengthened the pass defense even more with cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the second round.

GREEN BAY PACKERS: B

Offensive tackle Jordan Morgan (25) fills a need, though they may have passed up more talented linemen. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (45) and safety Javon Bullard (58) will improve the defense. Running back MarShawn Lloyd (88) and linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper (91) capped an outstanding second day.

HOUSTON TEXANS: B+

Last year's draft, which yielded the NFL's rookies of the year on both offense (Stroud) and defense (Anderson) would be tough for anyone to follow. Still, their top pick this year, cornerback Kamari Lassiter (42), can step right in and play. Safety Calen Bullock (78) is the cream of the rest of a crop that includes offensive tackle Blake Fisher (59) and tight end Cade Stover.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: B

They made edge rusher Laiatu Latu the first defensive player selected at No. 15 when he wasn't the highest-graded prospect at his position. They traded back and got talented receiver Adonai Mitchell, a first-round talent, with the 52nd pick. Offensive tackle Matt Goncalves (79) and safety Jaylin Simpson (164) are the best of a solid group from the last two days.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: B

They traded down to No. 23 and got a player many projected they would take at 17 in receiver Brian Thomas Jr., and they filled defensive needs with lineman Maason Smith (48) and safety Jarrian Jones (96).

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: A-

They traded up for receiver Xavier Worthy (28) and took a shot on raw offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia. Tight end Jared Wiley, safety Jaden Hicks, offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad and cornerback Kamal Hadden give opponents more reason to fear the two-time reigning Super Bowl champions.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS: A-

Brock Bowers (13) was by far the best tight end in the draft, but they already have Michael Mayer. Jackson Powers-Johnson (44) might be the top interior offensive lineman in a strong class, and offensive tackle Delmar Glaze (77) can be a steady starter. They nailed the third day with cornerback Decamerion Richardson, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, running back Dylan Laube, safety Trey Taylor and cornerback M.J. Devonshire.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: B+

They gave quarterback Justin Herbert protection and a playmaker with their first two picks: left tackle Joe Alt (5) and receiver Ladd McConkey (34). Former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh returned to the NFL but got his Wolverine in linebacker Junior Colson (69). And then got a receiver with the best genes in the draft in the seventh round when they took Brenden Rice, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

LOS ANGELES RAMS: B

Edge rusher Jared Verse (19) was this franchise's first pick in the first round since Jared Goff in 2016. He fits a major need. So does defensive tackle Braden Fiske (39) after Aaron Donald's retirement.

MIAMI DOLPHINS: B-

Edge rusher Chop Robinson (21) has defensive rookie of the year potential, but Patrick Paul (55) doesn't seem to fit the team's preferred style of athletic offensive tackles. Wide receiver Malik Washington is a sleeper in the sixth.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS: B

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy (10) wasn't the 10th-best player in the draft, but they didn't want to risk losing the Michigan man, who just led the Wolverines to a national championship. They also moved up to get possibly the best defensive player in the draft, end Dallas Turner (17). Meanwhile, cornerback Khyree Jackson offers great value as a fourth-round pick.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: C+

Drake Maye (3) isn't a lock to become a franchise quarterback, and versatile receiver Ja'Lynn Polk (37) went higher than expected, but their third day was strong. They got offensive lineman Layden Robinson and receiver Javon Baker in the fourth, and then cornerback Marcellas Dial and strong-armed quarterback Joe Milton in the sixth. Tight end Jaheim Bell in the seventh could be a steal.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: B+

Taliese Fuaga (14) is an immediate starter and fills a need at offensive tackle. They traded up for a solid cornerback in Kool-Aid McKinstry (41). Quarterback Spencer Rattler (150) once was a projected first-rounder and has upside; he highlighted an impressive haul on the third day.

NEW YORK GIANTS: B+

Receiver Malik Nabers (6) fills a major void. They boosted the secondary on Friday with safety Tyler Nubin (47) and cornerback Andru Phillips (70). Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is raw but has potential.

NEW YORK JETS: B-

They passed up Bowers to pick offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu (11), then got veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers more playmakers in receiver Malachi Corley (65) and running back Braelon Allen (134). Quarterback Jordan Travis is coming off ACL surgery but has time to develop. "Mr. Irrelevant," safety Jaylen Key, has the skill set to be a core player on special teams.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: A

Cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell (22) and Cooper DeJean (40) are a significant boost to the secondary. They took a risk on developing linebacker Jalyx Hunt (93), but receivers Ainias Smith (152) and Johnny Wilson (185) are excellent value, and linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the fifth round could be a steal.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS: B+

They gave new quarterback Russell Wilson more protection by using their top two picks on offensive linemen Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier. Receiver Roman Wilson (84) fills a hole in the slot, linebacker Payton Wilson (98) has first-round talent, and Mason McCormick provides more depth for the offensive line.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: B-

Receiver Ricky Pearsall (31) was an odd choice unless Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel are getting traded. Cornerback Renardo Green (64) and offensive lineman Dominick Puni (86) are ideal fits. Cornerback Malik Mustapha (124), receiver Jacob Cowing (135) and offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston headlined a nice haul on the final day.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: B+

Defensive tackle Byron Murphy (16) and offensive guard Christian Haynes (81) could be the best players at their positions in this class. Tight end A.J. Barner (121), offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea (179) and cornerback D.J. James (192) are high value.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: A

Versatile offensive lineman Graham Barton (26) fills a major need and edge rusher Chris Braswell (57) is a productive player. Receiver Jalen McMillan (92) is steady, and running back Buck Irving (125) could be a steal.

TENNESSEE TITANS: B

Offensive tackle JC Latham (7), who played on the right side at Alabama, will make the transition to the left side to protect the blind side of second-year quarterback Will Levis. They gambled on tackle T'Vondre Sweat (38) earlier than expected, but he's a big man who fits a need on the defensive line. They came away with a talented group on the final day, including linebacker Cedric Gray, receiver Jha'Quan Jackson, safety James Williams and linebacker Jaylen Harrell.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS: A

They their franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels (2) and kept on adding. Defensive tackle Johnny Newton (36) is a first-round player, and cornerback Mike Sainristil, tight end Ben Sinnott, offensive tackle Brandon Coleman and receiver Luke McCaffrey are building blocks gleaned from the second day.
