Who were the Jackson area top performers from Spring Fling Day 2?

Here are the top performers from Tuesday's Spring Fling action for West Tennessee:

Zach Dodson and the Mustangs hope to return to the state baseball tournament in 2017.

1. Zach Dodson (Huntingdon baseball, Senior) - Dodson pitched a seven-inning shutout, allowing two hits and striking out five as the Mustangs beat Gordonsville 4-0 in the Class A state tournament.

2. Katie Turner (McNairy softball, Junior) - Turner allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out 11 as the Lady Bobcats beat Sweetwater 4-3 in the Class AA state tournament.

3. Rhett Peel (USJ baseball, Senior) - Peel drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning in the Division II-A state tournament.

4. Josh Coleman (Huntingdon baseball, Senior) - Coleman went 1-for-3 with two RBI as the Mustangs beat Gordonsville 4-0 in the Class A state tournament.

5. Evan Gilliam (Lexington baseball, Senior) - Gilliam went 3-for-4 with one RBI against the defending state champions Spring Hill, but the Tigers lost 5-2 in the Class AA state tournament.

6. Mason Woods (USJ tennis, Freshman) - Woods beat USN's Jackson Schnelle in singles action, and his doubles team with Andre Gregory won 8-4. But the Bruins lost to USN 4-3 in the Division II-A state semifinals.

7. North Side soccer's defense - The Indians held Page scoreless for 99 minutes before Patriots scored with 55 seconds remaining in overtime.
