Grading the Tennessee Titans pick of James Williams at No. 242 in 2024 NFL Draft
The Tennessee Titans continued to add secondary depth by selecting Miami (Fla.) defensive back James Williams at No. 242 overall in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Williams was a three-year player at Miami and entered the draft as a junior. At 6-foot-4 and 231 pounds, he adds versatility to the Titans' defense.
Here's how the Tennessean grades the Titans' seventh-round pick:
Tennessee Titans No. 242 overall pick grade
The grade: B
Why? Williams was announced as a safety but will stick around on the roster if he can play multiple positions. At 6-4 and 231 pounds, he has the height and weight to do so. He ran a 4.65 40 at the scouting combine, so deep safety he is not. But as a linebacker and a core special teamer? He'll have a shot to do that and develop, which is what the seventh round is about.
