Rhodes trips against Hendrix, 6-3

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes lacrosse couldn't overcome Hendrix College in the Southern Athletic Association season opener, falling 6-3 on Wednesday.
 
The Lynx move to 6-4 and open conference play at 0-1, while The Warriors are now 5-4 and also open league play with a record of 1-0.
 
Rhodes held off their opponents for the first quarter, but Hendrix broke the deadlock just seven seconds into the second period with a goal by Carson Boone. The Warriors extended their lead to a three goal advantage after a pair of goals to close out the half from Boone and Alex Ortenstone.
 
The Lynx fought their way into the scoring column in the second half, with MG Jadick netting a goal at the 6:56 mark in the third period to make the count 3-1. A mere 27 seconds later, Kevin Vieira found the back of the net to pull within one at 3-2.
 
The Warriors halted the Lynx comeback with a third and fourth goal from Boone on a man-up opportunity, followed by another score with 1:24 left in the quarter to push ahead 5-2. The Lynx connected with one second left in the quarter when Matt Vavrek turned a Jadick pass into a goal for a 5-3 tally before the fourth quarter.
 
Hendrix distanced themselves even further in the fourth quarter with the fifth Boone goal of the game, taking a 6-3 lead and the game.
 
 Rhodes outshot their opponent by a count of 30-20 and picked up more ground balls by a tally of 28-22. They Lynx caused seven turnovers, and won seven of the 12 face offs but couldn't turn the statistical wins into a victory.
 
Braxton Carr was the Lynx' net minder for all 60 minutes, where he grabbed eight saves. Christian Wheeler stopped the Lynx with his 14 saves in goal for the Warriors.
 
Rhodes will hit the road for its next contest, a matchup with Birmingham Southern College on March 22 at 3 p.m.
