Rhodes slips in 7-6 loss to Millsaps

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team fell in a tight battle to Millsaps College in the final home game of the year, 7-6.
 
The Lynx fall to 7-7 on the season and a 1-4 SAA record while the Majors improve to 5-9 on the year and chalk up their first conference win at 1-4 in the league.
 
Rhodes got off to a hot start with an early goal from Cooper Robinson to take the 1-0 lead. A goal by Merrill Charette padded the Lynx lead and with 8:31 to play the lead was 2-0. The Majors ended their silence, connecting just two minutes later with a Ryan McKay goal to post a 3-1 score that would last the remainder of the period.
 
The second period went the way of the first, with Jason Lee connecting to give the Lynx the 3-1 advantage. Rhodes continued to work as Peter Baricev found the back of the net to pull ahead 4-1. Just 15 second later, Millsaps Simon Sherman had an answer, cutting the Lynx lead to 2-4. The majors scored two unanswered goals, the last with under three seconds to play, to take a 4-4 tie into the halftime break.
 
Millsaps took their first lead of the contest to open the second half, a short lead as Jason Lee knotted it back up at 5-5 just nine seconds later. Kevin Vieira got the Lynx lead back as he scored his first goal of the contest, grabbing a 6-5 lead that would hold for the remainder of the quarter.
 
In the final period of play, Millsaps scored two goals to take the lead and held on for the 7-6 victory.
 
Rhodes outshot its opponent by a count of 35-30 and also out worked the Majors in the ground ball category, picking up 47-20
 
Braxton Carr was in the cage all 60 minutes for the Lynx, where he grabbed 10 saves in the loss.
 
The Lynx will hit the road for their next two matches, with the first stop at Sewanee on April 11 followed by a trip to Centre College on April 13.
