Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Rhodes just misses against Sewanee, 12-11

SEWANEE, Tenn. – In the battle of the unbeaten, the Rhodes women's lacrosse team narrowly missed against Southern Athletic Association foes Sewanee, 12-11.

The loss is the first on the season for the Lynx, who move to 9-1 on the year and 4-1 in conference action while the Tigers improve to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.

The contest was a true battle, with back-and-forth action throughout. Ashley Dill struck first on behalf of the Lynx, netting the first goal at the 27:42 mark. In rivalry fashion, Sewanee knotted the game just a minute later with a goal of their own.

After the two squads traded goals, featuring Rhodes scores from Lindsay Gess and Morgan Fuller, Sewanee took the 4-3 lead with 20:16 to play in the half. Rhodes went on to net a pair of back-to-back goals from the sticks of Erin Gleeson and Kendall Cunningham to take a 5-4 lead at the 15:05 mark.

The Tigers went on a scoring streak, posting four straight goals to close the half and take an 8-5 lead into the break.

In the second period, the Tigers opened play with a goal, but the Lynx took advantage of a man-up opportunity to net their next goal at the 28:37 mark from Oliva Holmes. Cunningham and Fuller added their second goals of the contest and pulled within 9-8 at 21:23 to play.

Sewanee netted their 10th goal of the match, but the score only lit the Lynx fire as they rattled off three straight goals, again from the sticks of Fuller and Cunningham, with two for the first-year to take an 11-10 lead with 16:24 remaining.

The Tigers snuck in a game-tying goal at the 8:13 mark to make the count 11-11. In dramatic fashion, Sewanee found the back of the cage in the final 20 second of play to sneak out the 12-11 win.

The contest was tight all around, with the Lynx edging their competition 33-28. Rhodes also forced 25 Tiger turnovers, and scooped up more ground balls by a count of 26-21.

Sarah Daniels stood tall in the cage for the Lynx for all 60 minutes of play, grabbing 13 saves in the outing.

Rhodes will look to bounce back tomorrow, April 4 when they head to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Oglethorpe University.
