University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head wrestling coach Kyle Ruschell announced the Mocs 2018-19 schedule today. Chattanooga has eight events on tap in the pre-conference schedule, six Southern Conference duals and a trip to Indiana to close out the regular season.
“We are really excited about this year’s schedule,” said Ruschell, who is in his first season with the Mocs. “We have an exciting home match early with North Carolina coming to Maclellan Gym, along with a strong run of SoCon duals after the Scuffle.”
Action begins at the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage in the First Tennessee Pavilion prior to the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 27. The football team hosts VMI at 3:00 p.m. (E.D.T.), which means wrestling will take place after the Moc Walk in the Pavilion at 12:45 p.m.
UTC gets into regular season action with the yearly trip to the Hokie Open on Sunday, Nov. 4. That is followed by the Mocs marquee home dual against North Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 11. Match time against the Tar Heels is set for 2:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) in Maclellan Gym.
Chattanooga heads to the Wolfpack Open in Raleigh, N.C., the following week, followed by the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Tournament on Dec. 2.
The Mocs have two more road duals before the end of the calendar year, beginning with a trip to Edinboro on Dec. 18. That is followed by a match against Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, on Dec. 20.
The prestigious Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Clothing, returns to McKenzie Arena on Jan. 1-2. Look for the full field to be announced in the coming weeks.

Chattanooga makes another return trip to the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va., on Jan. 11-12 before opening SoCon action at home against VMI on Jan. 20.
Other home league duals include Davidson on Jan. 27, The Citadel on Feb. 8 and Campbell on Feb. 10. The Mocs have two SoCon road matches, beginning with Garnder-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C., on Feb. 1. That is followed by a visit to Boone, N.C., on Feb. 3 to face defending SoCon champion Appalachian State.
The Mocs close out the regular season with a dual match at Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 24, in Bloomington, Ind.
“Most of the schedule was already in place, but we were able to add the Indiana dual late in the process,” added Ruschell. “I think it is a great way to close out the regular season and get us ready for the conference tournament.”
This year's SoCon Tournament is hosted by Appalachian State on Saturday, March 9. The NCAA Championships are March 21-23 in Pittsburg, Pa.
