Reid Burton has been named the new boys’ golf coach at Dobyns-Bennett following Michael Holt who left the position after seven seasons with the program.
A 2003 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett and 2007 graduate of East Tennessee State, Burton brings a variety of experiences on and off the golf course. During his time at D-B, Burton served as captain of the basketball team and was known for his leadership.
“We are excited to name Coach Burton our new boys’ golf coach,” Dobyns-Bennett Athletic Director Frankie DeBusk said in a statement. “Reid joined us last year as an assistant golf coach and his passion working with student-athletes was clear from the start. I’m excited to see him move into this role and look forward to watching the continued growth of our program under his leadership.”
Burton has been the owner of Braeden’s BBQ for the past decade and his dedication to excellence translates seamlessly into his coaching philosophy, which emphasizes athletic skills and also character development and life lessons. Married to his high school sweetheart, Kristin, they have two daughters. Kennedy shares her father’s passion for golf and plays on the Sevier Middle School team, while other daughter Klaire is into gymnastics.
He praised the work of Holt’s whose tenure was highlighted by the 2020 season when the Indians swept conference, district and region titles on their way to finishing among the top teams in the state.
“I am deeply honored to lead the Dobyns-Bennett boys’ golf team,” Burton said. “Coach Holt has left behind a legacy of excellence, and I am humbled to follow in his footsteps. More than a game, golf teaches invaluable life lessons. I am committed to nurturing not only the players’ skills, but also their character and resilience.”
