The Henry County High School Patriots soccer team, seeded fourth in the District 14-3A tournament, and won its opening game easily, posting a strong 5-0 victory at Kenwood High School Monday night.
HCHS coach Baldo Hernandez said the team played 60 minutes with 10 men after a player was red-carded.
“We still controlled everything and just kind of pulled away, even with having one man less on the field,” he said.
Scoring goals were Thomas Palmer, Lorenzo Cano, Alex Cervantes, Gabriel Sanchez, and Antonio Huitzache.
The team was set to play against district rival West Creek Tuesday. A loss in that game would send the Patriots home, Hernandez said, but he believed the squad had the ability to make it to today’s district final.
“I think if we play how we played last (Monday) night, I think there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be in a district final on Thursday,” he said.
