CCS Sweeps Pope John Paul To Advance In DII-AA Softball

Lady Chargers Pound Out 32 Hits, Score 25 Runs In Sweep

Chattanooga Christian swept a DII-AA state softball doubleheader with the Pope John Paul Lady Knights on Friday, taking game one 16-0 and game two by a score of 9-0. With the sweep the Lady Chargers (17-16) advance to the quarterfinals on May 17 against Lipscomb Academy (16-9-1) in Nashville.

In the first game Nyla Halfacre’s clutch hitting paced the win.The sophomore tripled in the second inning, driving in three runs and her third inning single produced another score.

CCS pounded out 16 hits in the game with Hannah Smith leading at the plate, going 3-for-4. Halfacre, Addi Lewis and Alli Mathews all had two hits.

Smith took the win in the circle, scattering six hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

In game two, Lewis drove in four runs on four hits to lead the Lady Chargers to the win. The junior shortstop had an RBI single in the first, doubled in the fourth and singled in the sixth and seventh innings, producing three more runs.

Lewis’ 4-for-5 performance at the plate paced CCS, while Halfacre and Mathews each had three hits.

Smith again had the win, going four innings and allowing just one hit. Ella Claire Chaffin went three innings in relief, giving up a walk with no hits and striking out three.
