Basketball season was extended for the Inman Middle School Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night in the Area 5 Tournament being played at Hillcrest Elementary School in Troy.

The top-seeded Lady Bulldogs ran past No. 4 South Fulton 43-36 to advance to the area championship game on Thursday. The third-seeded Bulldogs weren’t as lucky, as they saw their season close with a 45-24 loss to No. 2 seed Martin.

Inman’s boys complete their season with a 12-4 record. The Lady Bulldogs are now 15-1 with a 15-game win streak.

 

LADY BULLDOGS 43, LADY DEVILS 36

Inman started fast by taking a 10-5 first-quarter lead, but had to survive a stout challenge from South Fulton in the second quarter of the girls’ game. The Lady Red Devils put up a 12-10 scoring edge in the second period to cut Inman’s halftime lead to 20-17. Both Mary Raye Smith and Heaven Phelps scored six points in the first half for Inman.

The Lady Bulldogs battled for a 13-9 scoring edge in the third period to extend Inman’s lead to 33-26. Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 43-36.

Three Inman players hit double figures in scoring, led by Smith with 12. Phelps added 11 points, while Harlee Veazey scored 10. Abby Gilstrap tossed in six points, including a 3-point basket. Both Shamaya Humphreys and Zoe Winstead scored two points.

 

PANTHERS 45, BULLDOGS 24

The Bulldogs  had the game close through one quarter although the Panthers held a 10-6 lead. Martin erupted in the second quarter for a 16-6 scoring run that pushed the Panthers’ lead to 26-14 at halftime. Jackson Hayes put in eight points with Brice Donaldson scoring six for Inman in the first half.

In the third period, the Panthers out-scored Inman 12-5 to increase Martin’s lead to 38-19. Martin’s 7-5 scoring run in the fourth quarter closed out Inman in the 45-24 decision.

Hayes finished with eight points to lead Inman in scoring. Both Donaldson and Peyton Tomlin chipped in six points with Tomlin’s points coming on a pair of 3-point baskets in the second half. Zamariyon Kendall contributed four points.
