The Franklin County High School girls soccer team lost to the Ravenwood Lady Raptors 3-1 at Girls Preparatory School Wednesday in a quarterfinal game for the Class AAA state tournament.
Franklin County fell behind early in the contest and was not able to make a comeback against the defending state champions as the team’s 13-game unbeaten streak came to an end.
Franklin County head soccer coach Kent Bean said the game didn’t go his team’s way, but they did a good job of making adjustments in the second half to stay competitive.
“We said at halftime that we had some things we needed to improve on, and I think that the girls did. In the second half, they came out and played their tails off,” he said. “I’m proud of the effort we gave.”
The Lady Raptors attacked the goal early and often with their first goal coming about eight minutes into the contest.
The Lady Raptors were awarded a penalty kick three minutes later, and they converted on the attempt to make it a 2-0 game.
The early scoring outburst would conclude with one more goal from the Lady Raptors as they put Franklin County in a 3-0 hole with 21 minutes remaining in the first half.
Franklin County would be awarded a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, and Ella Masters fired the kick into the corner of the net to get her team on the board. The goal was the 17th of the year for Masters.
Franklin County trailed 3-1 at halftime.
Franklin County's players would get a few more attacks on the opposing goal in the second half, but they were not able to score again as they lost by two.
With the loss, Franklin County finished the season with a record of 13-4-2.
