When Stone Memorial and Cumberland County High School go up against each other in any sport, it is going to competitive.

That became very evident late last week when the crosstown rivals went head-to-head in the I-40 Dual Track Meet. The two-day event took place at both schools.

Cumberland County picked up eight event wins in the girls competition. Caylin Hale had wins in the 100 and 200 meters events. Her time in the 100 was 14.07 seconds, while she had a time of 28.82 to win the 200.

Ivy Watson captured the 100 and 300 hurdles. Her time in the 100 was 18.57 seconds, and she finished the 300 with a time of 53.94. Linsey Colton won the mile with a time of 5:59.

Stone’s 4x100 meter relay team finished first with a time of 57.86, while the 4x200 squad won with a final time of 1:59. CCHS’ Layla Selby picked up the victory in the pole vault with a height of 7 feet, 3 inches.

The SMHS girls also picked up wins in several events.

Sophia Barton took first in the 400 meters with a time of 1 minute, 8 seconds. Shelby Vitous took first in the 800 after finishing the race in 2:39. The 4x800 relay team finished first with a time of 11:52.

Gema Paramo had a toss of 92 feet, 3 inches to capture the girls discus event. Barton won the long jump with a leap of 11-4. Kortney Headrick won the shot put for Stone Memorial with a distance of 31-11.

Shot put – Brittani Harbin, SM, second, 30-7; Poppy Morrison, CC, third, 24-8; Calla Betsinger, CC, fourth, 22-5.

The Stone Memorial Panthers won eight different events in the local contest. Maddox Oquendo won the 100 meters with a time of 11.7, while Sam Bringhurst took first in the 200 meters with a finish of 25.34.

Skylar Harville and Trenton Duncan won their individual events. Harville took first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14, while Duncan posted a finish of 4:49 to win the 1600 meters.

Stone took firs in each of the boys relays. The Panthers won the 4x100 in 45.59; the 4x200 in 1:40, the 4x400 meters with a finish of 4:14, and the 4x800 with a finish of 11:01.

Kenyon Rector took first in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 8 inches. Oquendo jumped 19 feet, 1 inch to win the long jump.

The Cumberland County boys won the 400 meters when Anthony Carey ran a time of 1:03. Isaiah McMillan finished first in the 110 hurdles with a finish of 17.80. He also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.94. Braden Templeton captured first in the pole vault with a height of 9 feet, 6 inches.
