Monday Round-up: Lady Cyclones, Lady ‘Landers Roll To Wins; Cyclones Fall In Heartbreaker

Elizabethton 11, John Battle (Va.) 0
The Lady Cyclones rolled to a road win on Monday evening.

Elizabethton plated three runs in the first and second innings and capped off the offensive performance with four more in the fifth.
Lela Byrd had five RBI with a home run and a triple for the Orange and Black, while Mollie Johnson went 4-for-4 with two RBI. Emma O’Quinn added two hits and two RBI.

Mikinna Blackwell, Grace Whaley, and Adrian Heading each added a hit.

In the circle, Byrd allowed no runs on two hits with five strikeouts.

Cloudland 8, Sullivan East 0
Saharra McKinney hit a grand slam to help power Cloudland to the nonconference win.

After the Lady ‘Landers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, McKinney’s grand slam was part of a six-run third inning as CHS took full control.

In the circle, Reagan Turbyfill went seven innings and allowed no earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

McKinney was 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Savannah McCoury and Eowyn McCoury each added a hit.

Ryan Turbyfill had two RBI. Bethany Sluder also added an RBI for the Lady ‘Landers.

University High 13, Hampton 12
The Lady Bulldogs saw a seventh-inning rally fall short in a back-and-forth battle against University High.

After Hampton took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, UH responded with four runs in the home side of the frame. The Lady Bulldogs battled back with five runs in the second and pushed the lead to 10-7 in the top of the fourth before the Lady Bucs plated four to take a one-run lead into the fifth.

UH added two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hampton, however, didn’t go quietly as the Lady Bulldogs were able to get the tying run on base but were unable to continue the rally.

Abby Guy was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Hannah Smith added two hits and an RBI. Maleah Scalf and Mallory Lamb each had two RBI and a hit.

Briley Davis and Lacey Smith recorded a hit apiece.

Patrick Henry (Va.) 12, Unaka 0
The Lady Rangers were unable to overcome an early deficit on Monday. 

Patrick Henry jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first two innings and was able to keep Unaka at bay to secure the win. 

Haley Taylor, Mattie Salyer, and Keoyna Hague each had a hit for Unaka.

Baseball
West Ridge 7, Elizabethton 6
The Cyclones came up short in a heartbreaker.

Elizabethton jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fourth and extended the advantage to 6-1 in the top of the fifth. The Wolves, however, answered with six runs of their own to take the lead and the win.

Steven Meadows and Jack Blevins had two hits apiece, while Logan Campbell, JD Hooks, and Bryson Rowland each added an RBI.

Carson Atkinson went 4.1 innings on the mound and allowed just one earned run on nine hits with two strikeouts.

University High 16, Happy Valley 0
The Warriors were unable to keep pace with a consistent UH offensive attack.

Cade Kendall, Grady Goulds, and Tucker Shoun each had a hit for the Warriors.

South Greene 16, Hampton 2
South Greene jumped out early on Monday afternoon.

The Rebels jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the top of the third before Hampton battled back with two runs of their own. The Bulldogs, however, were unable to keep the rally going.

Elisha Henson went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Noah Nichols, Landon Buchanan, and Gabriel Lyons each added a hit.
Jayden Kuhn added a RBI.
