The Tullahoma High School softball team went to Franklin County and won 5-4 in the last regular season game.
The Lady Wildcats beat Shelbyville 16-0 the day prior. The pair of wins moved Tullahoma’s record to 11-9 on the season. The win over Franklin County marked head coach Gary Barfield’s 150 win as the Lady ‘Cats head coach.
At Shelbyville, Tullahoma racked up 14 base knocks, while allowing zero. Amaya Sharp pitched all four innings and struck out 10 batters. She threw just 53 pitches.
Kaitlynn Gattis and Brinley Gillam led the team with three hits each. Gattis had a double and a home run. Madison Goad, Sara Tate and Elizabeth Simpson had two-hit games. Goad blasted a grand slam in the second inning. Addye Norman and Aleigha Raby had the other two hits. The team took seven walks. Kylee Holt and AC Holloway drew two each. Tate, Raby and Simpson also drew walks.
The Lady Wildcats scored first at Franklin County on back-to-back extra base hits from Norman and Goad. Gattis then scored Goad on a ground out. They added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Raby scoring Tate. They took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the second. The Rebelettes scored a pair of runs to make it 3-2. Holt opened the top of the third with a single and then stole second. Goad sent a ball over the fence in center field for the two run homer to go up 5-2. Franklin County again scored two runs, making it 5-4 after three. Both teams went three-up, three-down in the fourth. Tullahoma went 0-3 with a runner in scoring position in the fifth after a walked loaded the bases. Franklin County ran themselves out of the fifth, getting caught stealing. The runner reached on a hit by pitch and was thrown out by Holt trying to take second with two outs.
The Lady ‘Cats again went hitless in the sixth with runners on base. Franklin County hit back-to-back singles in the bottom half with two outs, but were unable to bring a runner around. Tullahoma had one baserunner in the seventh reach on a walk but stranded her at first. The Rebelettes tried to rally start a rally with two outs, after a single. Sharp was not having it, getting the next batter out to end the game. Sharp pitched the complete game in 116 pitches, 69 of them were strikes.
Holt, Norman and Goad each had two hits. Goad hit a triple and a home run. Norman had a double. Tate had the other double for Tullahoma. Her, Gillam and Raby had the other three hits for the Lady ‘Cats. Goad and Gillam drew the two Tullahoma walks.
Goad is one of the finalist for the Tennessean regular season Softball Player of the Year for the Nashville area. With less than 24 hours left for voting, Goad was leading with 47,505 votes. She was 1,112 votes ahead of second place.
