The DeKalb County Tigerette softball team finished their 2024 season Friday afternoon one game shy of the state tournament as they fell in the Class 3A sectional round to Soddy Daisy, 13-1.
“Back in the fall, we talked about goals and the biggest thing was getting out of districts,” said DeKalb County head coach Danielle Horton. “We hadn’t been to the region since 2019; they went above and beyond. They won the district tournament and got to host the region semis and championship. We had a shot at state and you really can’t ask for more than that.”
Senior Bri Murphy went 1-2 with a double and an RBI in her final game as a Tigerette. DeKalb County seniors include Murphy, Elaina Turner, Makayla Scales and Gracie Randolph.
“Our seniors have been playing together for a long time,” said Horton. “They’ve battled and done a lot for us this year.”
DeKalb County finishes the 2024 season at 20-14 overall. The Tigerettes were the District 7-3A champions and Region 4-3A runners-up.
“This gives the younger kids an expectation,” said Horton. “It just takes one group and it can feed off that. It’s not just a one-time thing; it’s a continuation. One of our things at DeKalb is ‘tradition never graduates’ and as an alum that rings true.”
