  • Monday, May 6, 2024

Interim Head of School Deacon Hicks Armor and Athletics Director Brian Gill have announced the hiring of Matt Matoh as Head Boys Basketball Coach at Notre Dame High School.

Coach Matoh comes to Notre Dame High School with extensive collegiate and high school coaching experience, including having served at Baylor School as an Assistant Coach of the varsity program, and Head Middle School Coach since 2018. Previously, he coached at both Cedarville University in Ohio, and Belmont University in Nashville. He also worked as a Head Coach with Stars Basketball Club in Nashville, the largest youth basketball club in the city, from 2015-2018.

“We are blessed to announce Coach Matoh as our next Boys Basketball Coach,” said Deacon Armor. “Matt is not only an excellent student of the sport who has a proven track record of coaching, but he is a leader who cares about developing young men into leaders themselves.”

Most recently, Coach Matoh led the Baylor Middle School Boys Basketball team to an Independent School Conference (ISC) championship.

“I am excited to have a chance to join the community at Notre Dame High School,” said Coach Matoh. “I’ve seen this school as a place where athletics is important, but it is primarily a tight, faith-based community which is building leaders in and out of the classroom.”

A native of Cleveland, OH, Coach Matoh grew up playing CYO basketball before matriculating to Belmont University. Upon graduation from Belmont, he served as a Graduate Assistant for their Men’s Basketball program.

“The hiring committee did an excellent job in vetting and interviewing several great candidates,” said Dr. Eric Schexnaildre, who will begin as Head of School on July 1. “We are thrilled to add Matt to the Notre Dame High School family; he brings an extensive skillset as a coach and the leadership abilities that we were looking for in our next head coach. Great things are happening at Notre Dame High School and Matt will be a big part of our future.”

Coach Matoh makes a home in East Ridge, TN and has lived in Chattanooga since 2018.
