SELMA — The Lee-Scott’s boys golf team won the AISA state championship Tuesday by 21 strokes with a team score of 624 over the two-day event at Selma Country Club. It’s the Warriors’ second consecutive state title and the third in the last four years.
Glenwood finished second (645), while Macon East was third (660).
Eighth-grader Davis Thompson won the individual state title, shooting a two-day score of 149 (76-73), while teammate and fellow eighth-grader Turk Pettit finished runner-up one stroke behind (75-75—150).
“Davis just played real well today,” Lee-Scott’s second-year coach Todd Thompson said. “He shot 73 today and was able to win. Turk played well all year and had three (individual tournament) wins.”
LSA’s Reynolds Carl fired a two day score of 164 (82-82) to finish 13th, John Whittelsey tied for 14th with a 165 (83-82), Matthew Hall was 17th with a 166 (88-78), Harrison Flemming tied for 28th with a 176 (87-89), while Houston Fuller was 36th with a 184 (96-88).

“It was tight through the front nine,” Thompson said of the Warriors’ lead. “Then we were able to pull away on the back nine.
“They played consistent. It was kind of tricked up golf course. The greens were real tough to read and putt, and our guys just did a better job of chipping and putting than everyone else.”
Glenwood’s Boo O’Pry led the Gators with a fifth-place finish, shooting a two-day score of 156 (77-79). Ben McLochlin finished sixth for the Gators (81-76—157), Tyler Findlater tied for 14th (78-87—165), Cal Slapper was tied for 22nd (91-79—170), Braxton Dawson finished 27th (88-87—175), and Jordan Goodman tied for 31st (94-85—179).
