Wendy’s High School Heisman program salutes two Pirate seniors

Boaz High School is proud to announce two students, Kathryn Leigh Chumley and Christopher Kolby Brannon, were recently named school winners for the prestigious Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.

Chumley and Brannon were chosen for their excellence in academics, athletics and community leadership.

“On behalf of Boaz High School, we are excited to celebrate and honor the outstanding athletic and scholastic achievements of Katy and Kolby with this prestigious award,” said BHS Principal Gary Minnick.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award celebrates the achievements of the nation’s top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom.

Just as the collegiate Heisman is known for being the highest award in college football, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award is recognized as the most esteemed award at the high school level, as it encourages future leadership by acknowledging well-rounded students.

Chumley is the daughter of Lori and Elden Chumley. She plays basketball and softball at BHS. Her future plans are to attend Snead State before transferring to a four-year college to study nursing.

Brannon is the son of Connie and Chris Brannon and plays baseball at BHS. He hopes to earn a baseball scholarship and plans to study sports medicine in college.

“The nationally recognized Wendy’s High School Heisman Award helps these high-achieving students to stand out in the increasingly selective college admissions process,” said Archie Griffin, the only two-time winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy and Wendy’s High School Heisman program spokesperson.

“These outstanding seniors across the country can use this award as a stepping stone towards continuing success and high achievements.”
