Plainview wins fourth straight county tournament

Plainview won the DeKalb County tournament for the fourth straight year.

PLAINVIEW - Plainview won their fourth straight DeKalb County Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, defeating Geraldine in the finals, 25-21, 25-18.

Aubriella Hairston won tournament MVP. She totaled 15 digs, 14 blocks, six aces, and 33 kills, including her 1,000th in her high school career.

"Our team put in a lot of work, and we wanted it badly, so we fought for it," Hairston said.

Plainview defeated Crossville, 25-8,25-12, Sylvania, 25-21, 25-13, and

Fyffe, 25-23, 25-13 before taking on Geraldine in the finals.

Jaxson Bruce (20 digs, 53 assists, three aces), Kella McCurdy (16 digs, 24 kills, three blocks, three aces), and Chelsey Speights, 40 digs, three assists, six aces) made the all-tournament team for the champions.

"Winning our fourth in a row is a significant achievement - these girls have an incredible competitive spirit," Plainview Head Coach Skyla Gray said.
