One of the top offensive linemen in the state will be staying close to home.

Ramsay senior Lance Johnson committed to Jacksonville State, he announced on social media Sunday morning.

He picked the in-state FBS program over offers from Arkansas State, Marshall, Alabama A&M, Samford and Central Arkansas.

Johnson, who stands at 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, was recently named to the AHSAA North-South All-Star game as a member of the North team; he helped lead Ramsay to a Class 5A title in 2022 and a state final appearance in 2023.

He’ll join a 2025 recruiting class that also includes in-state defensive back Jamarion Bennett from Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, along with Hoover tight end Christopher Warren, Jackson offensive lineman Markevian Blake, Weaver defensive back Kaden Gooden and Lovejoy (Ga.) defensive lineman Antoniyo Smith.

Ramsay (7-3, 5-1 Class 5A, Region 5) will travel to Scottsboro for the second round of the Class 5A playoffs on Friday.
