Bentonville cruises

BENTONVILLE - Bentonville wide receiver Desmond Smith caught a 66-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second half to help the Tigers pull away for a 31-7 victory over North Little Rock in the semifinals of the Class 7A state playoffs.

Bentonville (12-0) will try to capture its second consecutive state championship next Saturday against 7A-West rival Fayetteville, which beat Fort Smith Southside 23-20 in the other semifinal.

CLASS 6A

Lake Hamilton survives

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton fell behind by two touchdowns in the first half but battled back with a pair of third-quarter scores to slip past Pine Bluff 23-21 in the Class 6A semifinals. Lake Hamilton (12-1) will will play defending champion El Dorado, which beat Jonesboro 38-28, next Friday in the championship game.

CLASS 5A

Greenwood does it again

CAMDEN — Greenwood battled back from a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter to knock off Camden Fairview 34-31 behind a 27-yard field goal from Adam McFain on the final play of the game. The Bulldogs will attempt to win their second consecutive state title when they take on Batesville, a 47-26 winner of White Hall, next Saturday in the final.
