Covina High School has removed Kevin Glaspy as athletic director, football coach and track and field coach, according to an email sent to the teaching staff at the school this week.
No explanation was given.
Joe Brown confirmed that he has been named football coach and athletic director to replace Glaspy. Brown was Covina’s offensive coordinator for the football team this past season and served as head coach from 2012-2018.
Brown planned to speak with the players on the football team Wednesday.

School and school district officials, including district superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer and Covina principal Dr. Daisy Carrasco, have not responded to requests from the Southern California News Group for comment on the situation.
During Monday’s school board meeting, there was a closed session meeting on the agenda over public employee discipline/dismissal/release, but neither the school board nor the superintendent’s office would comment on the nature of the closed session meeting.
The next school board meeting is Feb. 13. It is not clear if there will be public discussion about Glaspy’s removal.
Glaspy has been on Covina’s football staff for 33 years, mostly as an assistant. He became the school’s head football coach this past season and guided the Colts to a 9-3 record. He has been a teacher and track coach at the school for more than three decades.
Glaspy, sources confirmed, has been placed on administrative leave from his teaching position at Covina. Glaspy has not returned messages seeking comment.
There has been no announcement on who will take over the boys and girls track team. The season begins Feb. 17.
The are indications that Covina’s actions to remove Glaspy are related to the SGV Bowl, an all-star football game that was held at Covina District Field on Jan. 13. Glaspy was placed on administrative leave shortly after that contest.
Some of the the people involved with hosting the game were questioned by district officials, sources confirmed.
Glaspy along with Northview football coach Marcel Perez and South Hills football coach Jacob Calderon helped host the event. Covina, Northview and South Hills share Covina District Stadium as their home field.
Nogales’ newly hired coach, Matt Villasenor, and Baldwin Park coach Robert Maxie were also very involved in the handling of the contest. They created the game and held the inaugural SGV Bowl last year at Charter Oak.
This year’s SGV Bowl was played in front of a packed crowd. A local rapper performed on the field during halftime surrounded by players. A large group of spectators rushed onto the field during the performance.
There were no reported serious issues as a result of the large crowd, but local police were summoned to the stadium toward the end of the contest to clear the crowd.
