WHITTIER — The Long Beach Wilson football team was perfect on offense in its 63-10 victory over California High School in a nonleague game Thursday at California High School.

The Bruins scored touchdowns on all eight offensive possessions and added another score on an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Evan Mack in the second quarter.

Wilson finishes 3-1 in the nonleague portion of its schedule under first-year head coach Travis Clark

After a bye week, the Bruins play host to Millikan in the Moore League opener on Sept. 27.

Last season, the Bruins were 1-3 heading into league play and finished the season at 4-6.

“That’s in the rearview mirror at this moment,” Clark said. “I want it to be 4-0, but we’ll take 3-1. It’s better than 1-3.”

Wilson will equal last year’s win total with one more victory.

The Bruins’ lone loss this season was a 27-13 defeat to Marina in Week 1.

“We’re just trying to get better,” Clark said. “If we get a little bit better, I’m happy with that. They’ve still got some habits that we’re trying to carve out. Other than that, I just love the way these kids show up every day. They just work their tails off. They’re just a bunch of great kids. That’s one encouraging thing is that we have a lot of great kids.”

Junior quarterback Mack Cooper, a two-year starter for the Bruins, completed 15 of 18 passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns.

Cooper’s 70-yard touchdown pass to Maxwell Barbee gave the Bruins a 14-7 lead in the first quarter.

Cooper then connected with Evan Mack for a 19-yard score to give the Bruins a two-touchdown lead heading into the second quarter.

Junior running back Jamell Edmond led the Bruins’ ground game, rushing for 124 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries.

Cooper said there is a noticeable difference in the Bruins’ culture compared to last season.

“I mean it’s almost like a community being here,” Cooper said. “Discipline too. The team is a lot more disciplined. They stick to their assignments, know their routes, know their plays and it definitely makes it easier on me. The linemen are helping me out. I love my linemen.”

The Condors dropped to 0-4 and have two more nonleague games before beginning play in the Del Rio League.

Wilson’s defense also did its part in the victory.

Jay Snipezz, Thomas Jones, Rick’Quan Thompson each had an interception and Daelan Foster recovered a Condors fumble.

The Condors’ bright spot on offense was Ricky Gonzales’ 61-yard touchdown pass to Frank Gallardo in the first quarter.
