Foundation and City of Life to clash, Timber Creek beats Colonial in girls basketball regional semifinals

Orlando area girls basketball teams will clash Friday for a chance to advance to the FHSAA Class 2A state final four next week in Lakeland.

Foundation Academy (15-7) won 44-38 at home vs. Central Florida Christian Academy (14-6) and Kissimmee City of Life (13-6) avenged a district championship loss at Lakeland Victory Christian (15-6) in region semifinal outings Tuesday.

Foundation, which trailed CFCA 29-27 after three quarters, plays in a region final for the first time since losing in back-to-back trips in 2012 and 2013, according to the FHSAA championship record book.

Zoe Sedo led the way for the Lions with 23 points, 4 steals and 3 rebounds while Landry Wolverton pulled down 12 rebounds. Talia Kemp scored 16 points for CFCA.

City of Life made easy work of Victory Christian during a 67-35 win. Shannelle Heredia finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Camila DePool tallied 16 points and 6 assists. Sophia Chevres added 11 points and 7 steals.

The Warriors lost to Victory 60-52 when the teams last met in the district title game on Feb. 5.

In large classification semifinal games, Timber Creek (17-5) held off visiting Colonial (16-10) for a 49-47 win in 7A and Wekiva (22-3) won 65-53 at home against Daytona Beach Mainland (20-3).

Timber Creek’s second win in three meetings this season against Colonial came after the teams entered the fourth quarter knotted in a 34-34 tie. The Wolves advance to a region final on the road at Orange Park Oakleaf (23-2), which won 65-52 at Port Orange Spruce Creek (18-6).

The Master’s Academy (16-7) knocked off previously unbeaten St. Augustine St. Joseph (20-1) at home during a 58-36 win in Class 3A.

The Eagles, state runners-up last season, were led by sophomore Hannah Kohn, who tallied 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Lake Highland Prep (16-0) kept its unbeaten season intact in Class 4A as Eleecia Carter scored 19 points and Nyla Harris came away with 12 points and 15 rebounds during a 67-57 win vs. Eustis (14-7).

Jones (16-5) cruised to a 70-15 win vs. Lecanto (18-6) in 5A and Oak Ridge (15-8) won 58-50 vs. Windermere High (7-8) in 7A.

St. Cloud’s season ended in a 64-39 loss at Winter Haven (17-1) in Class 6A. The Bulldogs finished 15-6 in the final year for senior Eno Inyang, who entered Tuesday night averaging 19.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
