Yulee looked down the state to hire its next football coach.

The school announced Rockledge offensive assistant and special teams coordinator Kyle Dougherty as its new coach on Tuesday afternoon, taking over as the Hornets' third coach in four seasons.

He replaces former NFL running back Terrence Flagler, who compiled a 6-13 record in two seasons with the Hornets. Yulee was eliminated from the Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1-5A play-in round against Westside.

Dougherty had previously served as an offensive assistant in several capacities and special teams coordinator at Rockledge.

A former high school kicker at Merritt Island, Dougherty played at Southern Illinois University from 2006 to 2009 — he was later named to the Salukis' All-Century squad — and later spent a stint in the indoor game with the Evansville Rage.

Yulee is still in search of its first playoff victory since reaching the Class 4A state semifinals in 2012, led by national record-shattering running back Derrick Henry.
