Prep Roundup: Wildcats top Colts

Melody Poling pitched a complete game with 8 Ks and 0 ER allowed, and Bree Samson smacked her fifth HR of the season to lead the Forest softball team past visiting North Marion, 6-1, on Friday night.

Ciara Kelley, Jill Bellomo, Emily Bellomo and Leah Meyer each had two hits for the Wildcats.

The Colts were paced by Katelyn Helton (2-4), Brooke Kinsey (2-3), Rose Mims (run) and Shelby Moran (1-3, RBI).

The win improved Poling to 4-0 and Forest to 7-2. FHS will host Crystal River on March 24 at 7 p.m. North Marion (4-6) will visit Dunnellon on March 23 at 7 p.m.

BASEBALL

Dunnellon 16, Leesburg 0: At DHS, the hosts were led by Drew Leinenbach (2-1 after throwing 3 innings with 7 Ks; 1-1 at the plate with a 2B and 2 RBI), Trent Townsend (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI), Blaise Hawkins (2-2, 4 RBI, 2 runs), Cody Hawkins (2-2, 2 runs, RBI) and Leo Gomez (2-2, RBI, run).

The Tigers (4-5, 2-1 in District 5-4A) will host Belleview on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

North Marion 12, Vanguard 0: At VHS, the Colts were led by Wyatt Campbell (6 IP, 0  hits, 15 K’s), Deric Fabian (4 hits, 2B, HR, 6 RBI), Donny Salguero (2 hits, 3 RBI), Jacob Walton (2 hits, 2B, HR) and Eli Garcia (4 SBs).

North Marion (4-2) will host Orange Park Ridgeview on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

West Port 7, Belleview 2: At BHS, the visitors were led by Cole Renfroe (6 IP, 0 ER with 7 Ks to improve to 2-1; 2-4 at the plate), Edwin Forty (2-4, 3 RBI) and Ryan Gingras (2-3, SB).

WPHS (4-3) will visit Gainesville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
