All Saints boys, Auburndale girls capture East County tennis team titles

WINTER HAVEN — It was literally a battle of four brothers.

Two days of matches amongst eight teams came down to the final two matches Tuesday night.

All Saints trailed by one when brothers Jacob and Max Bruschayt won their singles matches over brothers Colin Lopez and Nicholas Lopez of Winter Haven, giving All Saints a 14-13 win in the Polk County East Boys Tennis tournament played at the Winter Haven City Tennis Center.

Jacob Bruschayt defeated Colin Lopez 6-3, 6-4, for the No. 1 singles title, while Max defeated Nicholas 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles final.

In other singles finals, Ridge Community’s Daryl Luis defeated Lake Wales’ Logan Weaver 6-7 (4), 6-2, 11-9 in the final at No. 3.

Lake Wales collected a title at No. 4 when Jonathan Miller defeated Winter Haven’s Jack Barberet 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 5 singles Roy Doujiaji defeated Winter Haven’s Dashiell Warren 7-5, 7-5.

Earlier in doubles action, All Saints' top team of Jacob Bruschayt and Dylan Yrastorza though down 7-2, rallied defeating Wu and Russuoni of Ridge Community 9-8 (4), before losing in the doubles final to Lopez and Lopez of Winter Haven 7-6 (4), 6-4.

“Proud of my guys,” All Saints coach Aaron Skingley coach. “Our top doubles team being down 7-2, and coming back to get us a team point, proved to be huge for us.”

In girls action being played at Auburndale’s Cindy Hummel Tennis Center, Auburndale totaled 17 points, well ahead of Winter Haven and Lake Wales with 9 each.

Soccer standout Peyton Battilla continued her undefeated season defeating Frostproof’s Abby Windham 6-0, 6-2 in theNo. 1 singles final.

Madison Mulling  then defeated Frostproof’s Hannah Windham 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

All Saints’ Madison Fedler defeated Auburndale’s Ashley Graham 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3.

Winter Haven’s Caroline Jarrett defeated Auburndale’s Maria Nakashige 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 4 final.

In the lone singles final without an Auburndale player, Lake Wales’ Jackie Ovellette was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Winter Haven’s Lauren Thompson in the No. 5 singles final.

Auburndale claimed the top doubles spot when Battilla and Mulling defeated Windham and Windham for Frostproof 6-3, 6-0.

Lake Wales’ team of Gianini and Rogers defeated Auburndale’s Graham and Nakashige 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 taking the No. 2 doubles.

“This is a special group,” Auburndale coach Kevin Mulling said. “They have trained hard all year for this opportunity. Proud to bring the trophy back to Auburndale.”
