The News-Press Athlete of the Week sponsored by Babcock Ranch: Avery Mytnik, Cape Coral

Cape Coral softball player Avery Mytnik earned 54 percent of the vote to win The News-Press Athlete of the Week sponsored by Babcock Ranch for the week of March 29-April 3.

Mytnik struck out 14 batters in a one-hit shutout to help the Seahawks beat Mariner 3-0 on March 30.

Estero lacrosse player Lexy Duffy was the runner-up with 13 percent of the vote after scoring nine of the Wildcats' goals in a 10-9 win against Riverdale on April 1.

Other nominees were South Fort Myers baseball player Oscar Ramon, Mariner tennis player Nathan Laws, Fort Myers tennis player Gabriela Whitmer, Dunbar track and field athlete Jaden Codie and Canterbury track and field athlete Jessica Edwards.

The next Athlete of the Week poll will be released at noon Monday and voting will close at noon on April 15.
