Track athletes hit podium at 3A, 1A state track championships

Day one of the FHSAA Track and Field Championships at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida on Friday featured the top athletes in both Class 3A and 1A and it was a strong showing for the Treasure Coast.

Sebastian River senior Kyree Brown earned a fourth place finish in the triple jump with his best effort of 46 feet, 10 inches and junior Jacori Clark also brought home a fourth place finish in the discus with a best throw of 149 feet, 11 inches for the Sharks.

John Carroll Catholic junior Cody Menke also scored fourth place finishes in both the discus and shot put at the FHSAA 1A State Track and Field Championships Friday morning.

Menke had a best toss in discus at 141 feet, seven inches and in the shot put had a top effort of 48 feet, six inches to nearly set a personal best for the Rams.

In the 1A girls’ javelin, freshman Paige Lalicon brought home a fifth place finish in the javelin with her best toss of 96 feet, four inches.

South Fork freshman Addison Boyer raced to a fifth place finish in the 3A 3,200 meter run and junior Erin Craig finished sixth in the 3A pole vault for the Bulldogs.

Sebastian River senior Yasmine Cummings took 10th in the 3A discus for the Sharks and Fort Pierce Westwood senior Jillian Sullivan finished 11th in the 3A shot put for the Panthers.

Sophomore Wilky Denaud finished 13th in the 1A shot put and Grace Reed finished 16th in the 1A girls’ 1,600 meter run for John Carroll.

The Pine School seventh grader Riley McCaughey finished tied for 10th in the 1A high jump and came home 15th in 1A triple jump and Emerson Brinn took 14th in the 1A pole vault for the Knights.

Jensen Beach sophomore Justin Cannata finished 15th in the 3A 3,200 meter run for the Falcons.
