High school notes: Coaches name Treasure Coast top softball, baseball players

Top softball, baseball seniors earn FACA honors, seniors head to All-Star Games.

Year-end awards were announced for the area's top softball and baseball players of the year by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association.

For softball, Treasure Coast junior and Duke commit Cassidy Curd was chosen as the 7A Player of the Year as the two-way standout batted .426 with 13 RBI and 11 extra-base hits, including three home runs, and in the circle went 5-4 with a 1.32 ERA and struck out 120 over 69 innings in leading the Titans to their first-ever regional final.

Martin County senior and Rollins College signee Emily MacMullen was the 6A Player of the Year after a dominant season in the circle going 12-3 with an 0.99 ERA and struck out 230 hitters over 105⅔ innings, and at the plate batted .357 with 16 RBI for the Tigers.

South Fork senior and East Carolina signee Malea Rolle was the 5A Player of the Year after a standout final season for the Bulldogs leading the area with seven home runs and batting .377 with 23 RBI.

Jensen Beach senior Atlanta Richardson was the 4A Player of the Year after the two-way standout went 10-11 with a 4.07 ERA in 132⅓ innings in the circle and batted .379 with 17 RBI for the Falcons.

Lincoln Park Academy sophomore Madison Davis was the 3A Player of the Year after a big season for the Greyhounds, going 10-3 with a 1.79 ERA and struck out 146 hitters in 86 innings in the circle and batted .523 with 12 RBI with eight extra-base hits.

John Carroll Catholic freshman Sophia Loreto was the 2A Player of the Year after a productive season as she went 7-8 with a 3.42 ERA, striking out 137 hitters in 114⅔ innings in the circle and batted .350 with 20 RBI and 10 extra-base hits leading the Rams to a 2A regional final.

MacMullen and Rolle will represent the area as part of the South All-Star roster in the 31st All-Star Classic to be held at Bartow High School on June 5.

For baseball, Vero Beach senior and Elon signee Jake Nolan was selected as the 7A Player of the Year after going 11-1 with a 0.88 ERA and 93-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 71⅔ innings.

Martin County senior two-way standout Stephen Bartolotta was the 6A Player of the Year, going 5-0 with a 0.81 ERA and struck out 46 batters in 43 innings on the mound and batted .388 with 17 RBI for the Tigers.

Okeechobee junior Jacob Hardy was the 5A Player of the Year after a strong year on the mound going 7-3 with a 1.24 ERA and totaling 85 strikeouts in 62⅓ innings for the Brahmans.

Jensen Beach junior Patrick Ward was the 4A Player of the Year after a stellar season as one of the area's top hitters, batting .409 with eight doubles and two home runs and drove in 11 runs for the Falcons.

John Carroll Catholic senior and Florida signee Jay Allen was the 3A Player of the Year, after leading the Rams to the 3A Final Four as the center fielder batted .357 with eight doubles, two triples and two home runs, stole 22 bases and drove in 14 runs.

Nolan, Allen, John Carroll senior and Louisville signee Braden Calise and Lincoln Park Academy and Indian River State signee Matthew Pizzarello will all represent the area on the East All-Star team at the 42nd annual All-Star Classic at Tigertown in Lakeland on June 5-6.

Treasure Coast baseball seniors sign

Treasure Coast High School seniors Shane Koedyker (Wright State University-Lake Campus), Nate Miller (Notre Dame College) and Danny Martinez (Palm Beach State College) celebrated with head coach David Morales their signings to continue their baseball careers on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

Three seniors from Treasure Coast signed together Tuesday after finishing their careers as Titans this past spring.

Shortstop Danny Martinez, one of the top hitters in the state in his final season will stay in-state to play at Palm Beach State College.

Martinez batted .483 with four doubles, two triples and two home runs and added 17 stolen bases while driving in 19 runs and striking out just three time all season in 73 plate appearances for the Titans.

Catcher Nate Miller will head to Ohio and play at Notre Dame College after batting .263 with eight RBI and excelling behind the plate defensively as one of the top backstops in the area.

Pitcher Shane Koedyker will also continue his career in Ohio at Wright State University-Lake Camus after posting a 1.34 ERA in 15⅔ innings, striking out 12 batters in eight appearances.

Centennial's Torres signs to Marian

Centennial senior shortstop Chris Torres will continue his baseball career at Marian University in Indianapolis after a standout senior season for the Eagles.

Torres was among one of the area's leaders all season, batting .410 with five doubles, four home runs, stole 15 bases and drove in 19 runs.

Jensen Beach volleyball to hold camp

Jensen Beach's volleyball program, coming off a 4A state runner-up finish in 2020 will be hosting a camp open to girls entering fourth through ninth grade from July 26-30 at the Falcons' on-campus gymnasium.

Each day will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will cover individual drills, game situations and teaching the fundamentals of the game with camp counselors including former players from area schools and the camp is sponsored by All in Sports Training.

The cost of the camp is $135 or $140 on PayPal, with the cost for an additional sibling $100 for families.
