High school hoops season is still weeks away, but local fans got an appetizer on Monday night as Oak Hill Academy earned a 103-85 win over Southwest Virginia Community College in an exhibition game played at Marion’s Hurricane House.
University of Michigan commit Christian Anderson scored 16 points for Oak Hill and was one of five guys to score in double digits for the traditional prep powerhouse.
Point guard Kaden Magwood also had 16 points, while Texas Christian University (TCU) commit Micah Robinson supplied 15 points. Alex Doerger (11 points) and Deondrea Lindsey (10 points) also played well for the Warriors.
Oak Hill led 35-16 after one quarter in setting the tone.
Freshman Khalil Peoples of SWCC led all scorers with 17 points. Alijah Pierre from Immokajee, Florida, added 16 points. Jaden Lyles (11 points) and Jordan McInnis (10 points) also scored in double figures.

Grant Williams of Southwest added five points in playing in the gym he played at in high school.
Jake Hall (Patrick Henry) had four points for the Flying Eagles, Eli McCoy (Eastside) scored three points and Caleb Fuller (Bluefield, West Virginia) scored two points in the fourth quarter.

Faith Wilson had 39 assists and 10 digs, Rylee Haynie had 10 kills and Madison Haynie added eight kills as the West Ridge Wolves earned a 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 win over Morristown East in the semifinals of the TSSAA Region 1-AAA tournament.
Casey Wampler added 10 kills and Kari Wilson hustled her way to 23 digs for West Ridge, which hosts Science Hill today with the regional title on the line. Science Hill advanced with a 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11 triumph over Morristown West.
Twin Valley 3, Richlands 1
Ashleigh Davis stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 31 digs, 16 assists, eight kills and five aces as the Twin Valley Panthers recorded a 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 25-20 non-district victory over the Richlands Blue Tornado.
Rayne Hawthorne (24 digs, 23 kills, four aces), Fallyn Taylor (10 kills), Karlee Skeens (22 digs) and Chey Davis (26 digs) were the other stat leaders for head coach Brittany Russell Belcher’s squad.
Lee High 3, Castlewood 0
Chloe Calton collected 18 kills and 13 digs as the Lee High Generals swept their way to a 25-23, 25-15, 25-23 non-district win over Castlewood.
Cassidy Hammonds (14 kills, three aces), Blair Calton (26 assists), Sybella Yeary (27 digs) and Elizabeth Laws (nine kills) also keyed the victory.
Castlewood received six kills from Anna Summers, five kills from Macee Lasley and a 17-assist, three-ace performance from Charleigh Hall.

Madie Burke produced an 18-assist, nine-dig showing to highlight Thomas Walker’s 25-16, 25-20, 25-15 triumph.
Patricia Bigge’s 14 kills and Sarah McPherson’s 13 digs also played well for the Pioneers.

Myers shoots 77 in TSSAA tourney
Tennessee High’s Carter Myers shot a 77 on the opening day of the TSSAA Class AA boys state tournament on Monday at Sevierville Golf Club.
Myers had a birdie, 12 pars, four bogeys and one-double bogey in his five-over par round.
My round today was smooth with the putter being hot through the whole round,” Myers said.
Collierville’s Jackson Whaley shot a 67 to take the lead.
Science Hill’s William Sanders (68) was the top Northeast Tennessee performer in the first round.
Myers begins Round 2 today at 9:47 a.m. as he will be in a foursome with Tullahoma’s Alex Miller, Rockvale’s Aidan Sinclair and Walker Valley’s Cody Skipper.
“The goal for [Tuesday] is to shave a couple of strokes and make more birdies,” Myers said. “I would like to thank everyone that has gotten me here, especially my coach, the team, and my parents for supporting me.”
