BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Lake Land women’s basketball team, the No. 11 team in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Division II pre-season rankings, battled the No. 2 team in the nation in Lake Michigan College, a team it lost to last year in the National tournament, (63-61) but fell just short 69-63 in overtime. Lake Michigan finished as the National runner-up team last year.
The Lady Lakers led 25-24 at the half and sent the game into overtime on a driving layup with 1.8 seconds remaining by Lauren Bogle, who led Lake Land with 26 points.
“It is what you would expect from this kind of a match-up,” said Lake Land coach Dave Johnson. “No had much of a lead. In the overtime Bogle fouled out with three minutes to go and we were not able to keep up offensively, once she went out. It was a great weekend (played Oakland Community College and won Friday). We probably played the best team on the east side of Michigan and definitely the best on the west side. I think it really (facing the two teams) helps the freshmen and what they are going to face. We found out we are not far away from where we want to be and that is a great positive.”
