Marysville played one of its better softball games of the season in Tuesday’s doubleheader opener against visiting Clay Center.

The Bulldogs lost 3-1 to the Tigers, who scored two runs in the ninth inning to get the win. In game two, Clay Center won 20-10.

Marysville finishes North Central Kansas League play with a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday against visiting Concordia.

In game one against Clay Center, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Marysville matched it in the bottom fo the sixth when Ashlyn Price scored on Brittany Fink’s sacrifice.

Clay Center loaded bases in the seventh but could not get a run home. In the top of the ninth, the Tigers scored two runs on a single to left.

Marysville’s Isabelle Rose reached on an error and stole second but was left there in the bottom of the eighth.

Shelby Downard took the loss. She threw 129 pitches, faced 37 batters, struck out 10 and walked four.

In game two, Clay Center grabbed a 7-0 lead in the first inning.

Bulldog Autumn Schramm scored in the second inning on a Fink single. Marysville’s Macy Roever added a run in the third inning, scoring on Downard’s double. Marysville trailed 9-2.

The Tigers scored five runs in the top of the fourth. Marysville got on back when Fink doubled and scored on a pass ball.

Clay Center added two runs in the top of the fifth and led 17-3. Marysville scored six runs in the bottom of the inning with five singles and Price’s double to cut the Tiger margin to 17-9.

The Tigers added two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh. Marysville scored once in the sixth.

Laney Schaefer took the loss. She threw 160 pitches in five innings and faced 43 batters. She gave up 11 walks, seven hits and 17 runs and struck out five. Emily Dressman closed with 33 pitches in two innings against 10 batters. She struck out two batters and gave up three runs on three hits.
