Cloudland came up just short in their quest for a Region 1-A tournament title.

The Lady ‘Landers fell 3-1 to North Greene in the Region 1-A Championship game at Unaka on Thursday. Cloudland will compete in the sectional round on Saturday with a trip to Oliver Springs. First pitch is tentatively scheduled for 4p.

Cloudland had to battle back from an early deficit.

North Greene was able to get runners on base to open the game. Hannah Brooks hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Matti Phillips and a Haley Bailey groundout allowed Phillips to score to give the Lady Huskies a 2-0 lead after an inning of play.

Cloudland saw Reagan Turbyfill get on base in the bottom of the second, but CHS was unable to move the runner.

Neither team was able to get on the board until the top of the seventh as Jourdanne Marr pushed Loren Blevins across the plate with a bunt to increase the NG lead to 3-0.

The Lady ‘Landers, however, kept battling.

Eowyn McCoury drew a one-out walk, and McCoury scored after senior Ryan Turbyfill hit a double to center field. CHS, however, was unable to continue the rally.

Ry. Turbyfill and Rea. Turbyfill each had a hit for Cloudland.

In the pitching circle, Rea. Turbyfill struck out seven batters and allowed just one earned run on three hits.

North Greene saw Brooks strike out 10 batters while allowing one earned run on one hit.
