Lady Tigers tennis defeats Lamar

Thursday, September 16, 2010

The Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team got back into action at home with high hopes of continuing its winning ways Tuesday against Lamar High School.

Lamar struggled right from the start of the match and never really recovered as the Lady Tigers dominated throughout the day. After seeing the Lady Tigers cruise through most of the contest, Lamar was able to pick up a win in just one of the nine varsity matches, falling by a final score of 8-1.

Katie Brauer and Leah Creasy each showed strong performances for the Lady Tigers, beating Taylor Clements and Rose Compton, 8-6 and 8-4, respectively. Regan Kimbrough showed a similar performance in the No. 4 singles match, taking down Lacie Sallee by a final score of 8-3.

The No. 1 singles match was a far different story as Lamar's Kailey Rowland cruised her way to the squad's only win of the day, dispatching Nevada's Katlyn Short, 8-0. Ashley McKinley and Alexa Cubbage kept the Lady Tigers on track, however, as they were both able to finish out the day's singles competition with victories over Kenna Rolland and Carla Rea, 8-0 and 8-5.

Lamar was not able to get anything going in doubles competition on the day, either, as Short and Brauer defeated Rowland and Compton, 8-2, Creasy and Kimbrough took down Clements and Sallee, 8-3, and McKinley and Cubbage dispatched Rolland and Rea, 8-2.

No junior varsity matches were played.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to be in action again today as they continue their road trip against the Lady Cardinals of Webb City at 4:30 p.m.
