WAYNESBORO — The public will be offered the first glimpse of renovations to The Leland of Laurel Run Personal Care, 120 W. Main St., during its grand opening from 4 to 7 p.m. today.

Welcome to Waynesboro

The three-story building housed Rose Manor from 1999 until 2008, when it closed. It was transformed by new owners into the Anthony Wayne Manor, but never opened under that name and was purchased in October 2012 by the owners of The Village of Laurel Run, Senior Living Community in Fayetteville. Frank Gerhardt, George Desmond and Larry Cottle said they were very encouraged by the reception they received from local officials and residents.

The facility was licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in November 2012 to accommodate 40 residents, with the first welcomed Dec. 27.

‘”We offer affordable, close-to-home residency with options of private rooms and suites,” according to executive director Ellen Doub.

Personal Care residents are provided assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, and transportation to medical appointments, she said. “Meals and activities are also an important part of every day, catering to individual preferences with meal options and a variety of activity programming,” added Doub. Therapy and hospice services are also available on site.

For those looking for short-term placement, the Leland also offers the opportunity for respite stays.

“We recently had a woman spend 10 days at the Leland after a short hospitalization,” Doub said. “She lives alone and had concerns about the post-hospital instructions for lab work and new medications, in addition to feeling weak. She went home refreshed and ready to take on household responsibilities again,” Doub said.

Nursing home available

Should the need arise, residents of the Leland will have priority access to skilled nursing services/short term rehabilitation stay at The Village of Laurel Run, with a goal of returning to the Leland.

Leland officials have plans for community involvement for the residents, including spiritual opportunities and intergenerational activities with local day care facilities, as well as community trips.
