Penn State has signed women's basketball coach Coquese Washington to a five-year extension that will keep her in Happy Valley through 2017.
The university said in a statement that the contract is worth nearly $3.5 million.
Washington, in five years on the job, has a record of 92-67, including 42-44 in the Big Ten. The Lady Lions are 24-8 in conference play over the last two seasons, and won the 2012 Big Ten regular season championship.
Washington and the school started talking about an extension in the spring, after Washington interviewed for the job at Big Ten rival Michigan. Washington went to high school in Flint, Mich., and she has family in Ann Arbor.
