Rhodes rallies past Millsaps, 13-5

JACKSON, Miss. – The Rhodes women's lacrosse team picked up a Southern Athletic Association win on the road on Sunday over Millsaps College, 13-5.

The Lynx keep their record untarnished at 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in SAA play while the Majors fall to 6-3 on the year and 3-2 in conference action.

Rhodes pulled out to a 3-0 lead after netting the first three scores of the contest. Kendall Cunningham got things started just two minutes into play when she found the back of the cage for her first goal. Ashley Dill kept things rolling, as she worked in a shot at the 16:10 mark. Oliva Holmes worked in a goal just two minutes later to post the 3-0 score.

The Majors broke their scoring silence, but Rhodes had the answer in a pair of goals from Dill and Cunningham for the 5-1 lead. Millsaps scored two goals in the waning minutes of the half, but Cunningham notched a hat-trick to close the half for the Lynx, scoring her third goal in the final seconds of the half to give head coach Brice Queener and the Lynx a 6-3 advantage heading into the break.

In the second half, Cunningham picked up right where she left off, scoring the first goal of the half at the 23:35 mark to push the Lynx ahead 7-3. Morgan Fuller worked into the scoring column, netting a goal just 19 seconds later, for the 8-3 score. The Majors worked in their fourth goal at the 13:27 mark to make the count 8-4.

Holmes worked to continue to distance the Lynx, netting her second goal at the 7:17 mark. Maggie Rippetwo scored back-to-back goals within thirty seconds of each other for a 11-4 lead with 5:51 to play. Fuller worked in her second goal of the contest, to give Rhodes a 12-4 cushion at the 5:02 mark. The Majors weren't quite done, scoring a goal with four minutes to play to make the count 12-5.

Fuller fought for the last goal, with a hat-trick of her own, to make the final score 13-5.

Sarah Daniels stood tall in goal for the Lynx, playing all 60 minutes in the win.

Rhodes will be back in action on April 3 when they head to Sewanee to take on the Tigers.
