Stewart County proved to be a tough matchup for the Harrelson School basketball teams on Thursday in Dover.
The Lady Rebels took a 31-28 triumph over Harrelson’s Lady Hawks, while the Rebels upended the Hawks 39-28. Harrelson’s girls are now 6-2 on the season, while the Hawks fell to 3-5.
Harrelson played at home Monday night against Camden.
LADY REBELS 31, LADY HAWKS 28
Harrelson appeared to be in control of the girls’ contest after capturing a 6-4 lead in the first quarter and building that to a 13-10 halftime edge.
Stewart County changed the momentum with a 10-5 scoring advantage in the third period to give the Lady Rebels a 20-18 lead. The Lady Rebels finished off the win with an 11-10 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Harrelson got 13 points from Averie O’Daniel with Avery Cox adding seven points and Savannah Nesbitt scoring six. Meghann Cervantes had two points.
Stewart County’s Adalia Hewell threw in 16 points for the Lady Rebels. Karlee Bramlett added nine points with Kaitlyn Bramlett scoring four points. Tori Hale scored two points.
REBELS 39, HAWKS 28
Stewart County started strong in the boys’ contest by grabbing a 14-6 first-quarter lead. A 6-2 scoring edge in the second stanza push Stewart County’s lead to 20-8.
The Rebels went on a 11-7 scoring run in the third period to increase their lead to 31-15.
The Hawks tried to rally with a 13-8 scoring edge in the fourth quarter, but that only drew Harrelson to within the final 39-28 margin.
Tyson Hornbuckle scored 12 points to lead the Hawks in points. Eli Bona had nine points on three 3-point shots. Scoring two points each were Lane Townsend, Cody Barnhill and Devin Valentine. Cole Townsend scored one point.
Stewart County’s Chris Ramirez poured in 20 points. Will Page added 10 points, and Corbin Templon had one 3-point basket. Adding two points each were Connor Andrews, Izac McElroy and Eli Bogard.
