Prep Round-Up: Eagles down Harpeth

WESTMORELAND The Westmoreland High School boys basketball team rallied in the second half for a 52-48 victory over visiting Harpeth on Thursday evening.

The Eagles avenged a 50-48 loss at Harpeth on Jan. 15.

On Thursday, Westmoreland (16-10 overall, 8-2 in District 9-AA) trailed by a 21-18 margin at halftime and by six points (28-22) midway through the third quarter.

However, the Eagles scored the next 14 points, thanks in part to a pair of 3-pointers from senior guard Zeke Webb. Westmoreland senior guard Caleb Graves capped the surge with a layin to open the fourth quarter, creating a 36-22 margin.

The Indians battled back to tie the contest at 42, but two free throws from both Webb and junior Lucas Garrison and a layin by senior Dalton Leath created a six-point cushion.

Harpeth pulled back to within two points, but Leath made 2 of 4 free-throw attempts in the final minute to seal the win.

Leath scored a team-high 17 points, and Graves provided 13, followed by Webb (8 points), Lucas Garrison (4), Colton Pippin (4), Dillon Duffer (3) and Griffin Garrison (3).

It was the Eagles’ sixth consecutive victory.

Senior guard Zane Hutton made six of Harpeth’s 11 3-pointers, accounting for all of his game-high 18 points.

Westmoreland claimed a 46-45 victory in the two teams’ earlier meeting.

On Thursday, the Lady Eagles (22-3, 8-2) led 13-8 after one period of play, and Westmoreland junior Peightyn Gross made back-to-back 3-pointers in the second period, extending the lead to 20 points.

Westmoreland scored 13 unanswered points in the third period, with Gross making another 3-pointer, classmate Kaitlyn Norman sinking two 3-pointers and junior Karley Smith tossing in a pair of jump shots. That extended the lead to 44-12.

Norman and Smith scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, backed by Gross (9), Haley Braswell (6), Jesica Eppstein (6), Lexie McCormick (2) and Kailan Woodard (2).

Senior forward Addi Moulton and sophomore guard Maddie Pyrdum scored seven points each to lead the Lady Indians.

The Eagle squads face visiting White House on Friday evening.

Blue Devil squads fall to cross-town rival

WHITE HOUSE White House Heritage High senior center Caleb Stephens made a shot in the lane with 5.3 seconds remaining, handing host White House High a 79-78 loss on Thursday evening.

The Blue Devils captured a 65-62 victory when the cross-town rivals’ played at White House Heritage on Dec. 8.

On Thursday, White House (13-11 overall, 7-4 in District 9-AA) trailed 21-17 after one period of play but surged out to a 34-33 lead by halftime and a 62-56 advantage entering the final period.

After Stephens made the game-winning basket, he blocked a shot on the other end of the court to end the contest.

Blue Devil juniors Bradley Cole and Malik Morgan scored 19 points each, and they were joined in double figures by freshman guard Jared Ward (16 points), senior point guard Luke Hopkins (11) and senior forward Logan Trimmer (10).

Freshman teammate Cole Pond scored three points.

Patriot senior guard Branson Kramm poured in a game-high 26 points, and junior forward Nick DesMarais and Stephens provided 20 and 18 points, respectively.

The Lady Devils dropped a 72-42 decision in the two teams’ earlier meeting.

On Thursday, White House (3-18, 0-11) trailed 38-12 by halftime and 62-22 entering the fourth quarter.

Lady Devil freshman Allyson Trimmer and junior Stephanie Palmer scored eight and seven points, respectively, followed by Bailey Hutchison (5 points), Hailee Ellis (4), Grace Maupin (4), McKenzie Vaughn (4), Bryanna Allen (2), Lauren Felts (2) and Cassidy Underwood (2).

Sophomore guard Callie Jo Roach led four Lady Patriots in double figures with 16 points, and freshman Bri Hay and sophomore Alex McFarlin scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.

White House plays at Westmoreland on Friday evening.

HCA squads end season

LEBANON The Hendersonville Christian Academy girls prep basketball team suffered a 48-27 loss at Friendship Christian in its Division II-Class A District 1 Tournament opener on Thursday evening.

The Lady Crusaders suffered a pair of losses to FCS during the regular season.

On Thursday, HCA (10-18) produced just five points in the first half, trailing by 16 points at halftime and by a 37-15 margin entering the fourth quarter.

Lady Crusader junior forward Lindsie Mierop scored a team-high 10 points, followed by Desi Munson (8), Ali Turc (4), Marian Silva (3), Lauren Batey (1) and April Wooley (1).

Lady Commander senior forward Courtney Petty scored a game-high 16 points.

Batey was named to the all-district team.

HCA loses two seniors, Silva and Turc.

>> The Cruader boys were outscored in all four quarters of their Division II-Class A District 1 Tournament opener on Thursday evening, a 64-35 loss at Donelson Christian Academy.

HCA dropped contests of 67-40 and 72-33 to DCA during the regular season.

On Thursday, HCA (2-25) trailed 35-20 by halftime and 52-28 entering the fourth quarter.

Crusader senior guard Joey Fragnoli scored a team-high nine points, backed by Blake Smith (6), Joseph Mussnug (5), Devin Carlisle (4), Jalen Cole (4), Justin Antemann (3), Peyton Shoulders (3) and Andre Hambrick (1).

Wildcat senior guard Luke Charlton scored a game-high 22 points.

The HCA boys squad loses three seniors – Fragnoli, Smith and Emilio Quemada. Quemada was named to the all-district team.
