Akins To Leave Ooltewah For OC Job At Red Bank

Veteran football coach Drew Akins has left Ooltewah High School to become the offensive coordinator at Red Bank High School,it has been learned.

Akins coached quarterbacks and helped guide the Owls to District 5-3A and Region 4-5A dominance in recent years. The move is being made because Akins wants to add play-calling to his coaching resume, sources said.

Ooltewah coach Mac Bryan, heading into his fourth season, is actively searching for Akins’ replacement on his 2016 staff.

Akins’ father, Robert, is a well-known coach with successful stops at Boyd-Buchanan and Ringgold high schools.

Akins' move to Red Bank is expected to become official on Monday.
