On the day after her GPS rowing teammates won the Carney Cup, Lexie Kyriakidis signed a letter of intent to join another team, this time at Jacksonville University. A coxswain for the Bruisers, she has rowed since only her sophomore year. Prior to that, she could be found on the stage performing in several school plays. Her performances are now on the water. 

Kyriakidis chose Jacksonville over two other Division I schools, Southern Methodist University and Tulsa, where classmate Nicki Backus will be rowing. “JU is a gorgeous campus,” she says, noting that the school offers a major in cinematography that she plans to pursue. 

GPS Coach Megan McCourt says her coxswain is comfortable steering the boat. “She will be a good leader. She has self-confidence, and she knows what she needs to do and how to do it.” 

The Jacksonville University Dolphins won the Florida intercollegiate Rowing Association Cup and their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in 2014. They competed in the NCAA Division I National Championship Regatta in 2014 and 2015.
