HENDERSON – As a majority of the teams in the southern half of West Tennessee gathered for the Star Physical Therapy Jamboree at Chester County, it was one of the youngest programs in the area Scotts Hill played against a bigger school in Class AA Chester County, and the Lions came away with a 7-6 victory.

“We’ve got to get in shape and clean some things up,” Scotts Hill coach Michael Stroup said. “We had some things break down on defense, but I thought the kids played hard. We got a good run out of Kobe Rogers. We kept things pretty vanilla, and we just have to get back to work next week.”

With new players in many positions, Chester County struggled at times as guys were learning what to do in certain situations.

“We have a lot of new kids,” Chester County coach Michael Hodum said. “We had guys without game experience. We had two guys on our offense that had ever played the position they were playing in a football game. Other than that, we had nine guys out there that had no idea what was about to happen to them.”

The Eagles had one defensive hiccup as Kobe Rogers scored before the first half ended on a 71-yard touchdown tune.

Chester County’s B.J. Burton (1) rushes against Scotts Hill during the Star Physical Therapy Jamboree at Chester County on Friday.

But the Eagles answered with a seven-play, 65-yard drive with B.J. Burton scoring on a one-yard run.

“I thought the kids did a good job staying in the game and staying focused,” Hodum said.

Scotts Hill did force two turnovers with Drake Thompson’s interception ending Chester County’s last scoring drive, and William Stafford had a fumble recovery on the Eagles’ first possession.

“Drake Thompson got a big pick there to help us seal the deal a little bit,” Stroup said. “We’ve got to get in shape and play against a little adversity.”

Riverside 7, Chester County 0: Twenty-four minutes of play wasn’t enough for Chester County as the Eagles played a second game in the jamboree.

And again, it was one big play that led to a loss for Chester County.

“We had two games there as we had Scotts Hill and then Riverside, and that wore on those kids,” Hodum said. “They didn’t mentally prepare themselves to be ready for that. Hopefully, this is a learning experience tonight with this is how you get ready for a game.

“I am glad that we played two tonight because we learned hard lessons, but we learned double the hard lessons that everybody else did. We needed those lessons. We need to get game ready. Our team is not game ready.”

The lone touchdown came with 8:09 remaining as Riverside’s Drake Smith connected Kyle Roach for an 85-yard touchdown pass.

Other than that play, this matchup was a defensive battle as Riverside finshed with 80 yards of offense – five if the touchdown pass is taken out – while Chester County finished with 21 total yards.

Bolivar Central’s Trey Lowe (10) and his teammates leave the field after falling to Adamsville 7-6 during the Star Physical Therapy Jamboree at Chester County on Friday.

Adamsville 7, Bolivar 6: In the opening game of the jamboree, both touchdowns were scored in the first four minutes.

Bolivar took the opening drive 70 yards to take a 6-0 lead. Correy Brown scored on an eight-yard run.

But on Adamsville’s first play from scrimmage, Dylan Lott ran 70 yards to tie the game before Will Linam’s extra point gave the Cardinals the lead.

Adamsville finished with 78 yards of offense, while the Tigers did a better job moving the ball with 78 rushing yards and 44 passing yards for 122 yards.

McNairy Central’s Chase Wallace (4) completes a pass under the pressure of Hardin County’s LaTrell Bumphus (23) during the Star Physical Therapy Jamboree at Chester County on Friday.

Hardin County 14, McNairy Central 0: The Tigers used a strong defensive effort as they held McNairy Central to 32 yards of offense, including five negative rushing yards.

Davius Prather and Justice Weatherspoon had interceptions for Hardin County with Weatherspoon returning his 45 yards for the Tigers’ second touchdown.

Dawson Ruppert scored Hardin County’s first touchdown with four minutes left in the first half from three yards out to cap off an eight-play drive.

The Tigers finished with 127 yards of offense.
