Ridgeway's Elizabeth Dixon is the first Memphian to be selected in the annual McDonald's All American Girls Game, now in its 17th year.

Words can't describe the feeling Elizabeth Dixon had when she learned she had been named to the prestigious McDonald's All American Game.

Well, maybe one word.

"I'm just so excited," she said on Tuesday. "Excited to go to Atlanta where I'll be going to school, excited to play against the best girls in the world ... I know I'll do great. I was just extremely happy when I found out."

She certainly should be; Dixon is the first Memphian to be selected for the girls game, which was first played in 2002. The 6-3 senior from Ridgeway will suit up for the West squad in the March 28 game at Philips Arena in Atlanta.

She'll play alongside one of her future teammates at Georgia Tech, Elizabeth Balogun from Hamilton Heights Academy in Chattanooga.

Heading into this week's games, Dixon was averaging 22.8 points per game for the Roadrunners.
