MURFREESBORO — Shelby Moore stepped up in a big way, but Gatlinburg-Pittman couldn't keep up with Haywood's Jamirah Shutes. Haywood won the Class AA state quarterfinal 67-56 behind Shutes' record-setting 42 points.

The Highlanders set out to hold Shutes to 20 points and she only had 12 in the first half. But the senior exploded in the second half on her way to the state tournament single-game scoring record.

Gatlinburg-Pittman hit a stride in the postseason. The Lady Highlanders were fourth in District 3-AA in the regular season, then went on to win the district and region tournaments.

"It was just so fun because it seemed like every game we won there was just more people coming out and more people coming out," coach Kaite Moore said.

Shelby Moore came off the bench and matched Sophie Henry's team-high 29 points. Moore led the Lady Highlanders with 23 points.
