MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After winning its first two games in the TSSAA Class 1A state softball tournament, Sale Creek ran into Summertown in the winner’s bracket final on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Panthers, 7-1, and advanced to the championship game on Friday at 2 p.m.

For Sale Creek to get another shot at Summertown, it has to knock off Cascade in Friday’s 9 a.m. elimination game. Cascade ousted Whitwell, 1-0, on Brooke Sudduth’s no-hitter and Carmen Ray’s game-winning, one-out RBI single in the eighth inning. Sudduth struck out 13.

The Lady Panthers’ only run came in the first inning when Leah Campbell reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Trinity Liner’s double.

Summertown (36-6), which has won 11 straight games, scored twice in the first and three in the third to put the Lady Panthers in a bind.

Tori Campbell checked Sale Creek on five hits while striking out six and walking one, throwing 103 pitches.

Sale Creek’s Macie Stanfield started the game and was relieved by Madison Stott in the third. Stanfield allowed five hits and five runs, only two earned. Stott worked 4 1/3 innings and gave up six hits, two runs, one earned, and fanned two and walked none. The two pitches combined for 137 pitches.
