Girls lacrosse player of the year

Elizabeth Farnsworth

Hutchison, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Farnsworth started five years for the Sting and was a key part of five TSLA state championship squads. She was named the Jackie Pitts Player of the Year by U.S. Lacrosse after scoring 102 goals and assisting on 51 others as Hutchison won its eighth championship since starting its program in 2000 and seventh in a row. She will play at Virginia.

Anne Cater

Hutchison, Jr.

Position: Goalkeeper

Why chosen: An all-state and all-west region selection in goal, Cater averaged approximately 10.5 saves and allowed just four goals per game for the state's No. 1 program.

Macy McCullough

Hutchison, Sr.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: A three-year starter for the state's top program, McCullough was voted the state's top defender and was a first-team all-state and all-west region selection as well as an academic All-American.

Anna Field

Hutchison, Sr.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: Another all-west region selection, Field teamed with Cater and McCullough in the back to spark Hutchison to a 19-0 season and the school's seventh consecutive state championship.

Lindsey Carney

Houston, Sr.

Position: Defense

Why chosen: A tough, tenacious defender a Mustangs squad that ended the season with a 9-6 mark, Carney was selected for the all-South Region 2 squad. 

Jordan Groover

Hutchison, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: An all-state, all-west region and All-American selection, Groover scored three goals in the state championship game victory over Ensworth and finished the year with 60 goals and 35 assists. She was a nominee for Commercial Appeal Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.

Janessa Mai

Hutchison, Jr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Another all-state and all-West Region performer, Mai tallied 41 goals and assisted on 17 others as Hutchison finished the year with an 19-0 record. She was a nominee for Commercial Appeal Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.

Evelyn Roberts

St. Mary's, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: A five-year starter, Roberts earned all-state and all-region recognition. She scored 79 goals and assisted on 17 others as St. Mary's had its best season, advancing to the state semifinals before falling to Ensworth. She was a nominee for Commercial Appeal Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.

Hattie Fogarty

St. Mary's, Sr.

Position: Midfield

Why chosen: Another multi-time all-metro performer for the Turkeys, Fogarty helped her team to its best season as it advanced to the state semifinals and finished with a 14-6 mark.

Caroline Dargie

Houston, Sr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: A four-year starter and a prolific scorer for the Mustangs, Dargie garnered all-state mention for the second season after scoring 64 goals and assisting on 30 others.

Kate Murphy

St. George's, Jr.

Position: Attack

Why chosen: A Vanderbilt commitment, Murphy provided plenty of offensive punch for the Gryphons, scoring 71 goals and assisting on 29 others en rote to earning first-team all-state and all-region recognition for the third year in a row. She was a nominee for Commercial Appeal Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.

Claire Murphy

St. George's, Sr. 

Position: Attack

Why chosen: Murphy, who will play at Rhodes, was an all-west region selection and ranked second on her team in scoring with 33 goals and 37 assists. She is St. George's all-time career leader in assists.

Selections were made based on individual and team performances during the season and input from area coaches and officials.
