Boyd Buchanan School announces the hiring of 1989 graduate, Tommy Brown, as its new Athletic Director (A.D.). Mr. Brown brings over 24 years of coaching and leadership experience, with 19 of those at the collegiate level.

“Bringing Tommy onboard to oversee our athletics program will strengthen athletics and further advance our school’s mission in many ways,” said Boyd Buchanan President Jill C. Hartness.

A native of Chattanooga, Mr.  Brown was a semifinalist for the 2012-13 Don Meyer National Coach of the Year Award while head basketball coach at Lee University. Brown led Lee to the NAIA National tournament in eight consecutive seasons, including an Elite Eight and two Sweet Sixteen appearances. He also led the Flames to more than 240 victories, two 30-win seasons, and six additional seasons with 20 plus wins.

Mr. Brown was named SSAC Coach of the Year and the Victory Sports NAIA Division I Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading Lee to a 33-2 record and the SSAC regular season and tournament championships. Prior to his time at Lee, Brown spent seven years as the head coach and Director of Athletics at Bluefield College where he led the Rams to the Division II National Tournament on four different occasions. In his stints at Lee and Bluefield, Brown posted 13 straight 20-win seasons and was named a conference coach of the year six times.

Brown’s deep, collegiate-level leadership experience underscores our continued transformation and the overall growth potential of all our athletic offerings. We are both excited and proud to have Tommy back at his alma mater,” Ms. Hartness said.
